Tutorial 5 of 7

Letters, life events and your digital estate

Intermediate 7 min

Decode deadlines from letters, get a dated checklist for a life event and prepare a digital estate plan for the person you trust — then put it all in your calendar.

The Life admin desk collects the paperwork that is not about a monthly amount. Open the Retirement & digital estate example to follow along.

1. Decode a letter

Under Letters and notices each letter has a Title, the date it was Received on, whether Deadlines count from the day you received it or the date of the letter, and the Letter text. Paste the text of a reminder, a tax notice or an insurance letter and click Find deadlines.

Deadline Decoder finds explicit dates and relative ones such as within 30 days after receipt, the required action and the consequences. In the example the pension letter received on 12 October asks for documents within 30 days, so the deadline is 11 November 2026.

Click Add 1 deadline to the calendar. Ledgerly remembers which dates came from which letter, so a second click does not add duplicates.

2. A checklist for a life event

Under Life events pick the Event (moving home, getting married, a baby, a new job, retiring …), its Date, the Country and tick Your situation (renting, owning, have a car, have children …). Click Create checklist. Life Admin Generator returns a dated to-do list with before / on the day / after phases; legal deadlines are only stated where they were verified, everything else is a recommendation.

Add N tasks to the calendar copies the tasks into the Calendar desk, where you can tick them off.

3. Your digital estate

Under Digital estate enter Your name, your Trusted contact, whether you use a password manager and have a written will, and list your online accounts with what should happen to each (Transfer to my contact, Download, then delete, Memorialise, Delete, Keep running).

Add N subscriptions as accounts copies your subscriptions into the list with their monthly cost, so the people you trust know what to stop paying. Never enter passwords — the plan says where to find access, not the access itself.

Click Create estate plan. Digital Estate Organizer prioritises the accounts, points out official legacy features where a service has one (for example Google's Inactive Account Manager, Apple's Legacy Contact, Facebook's legacy contact or Bitwarden's Emergency Access) and writes a document you can Download the plan for your contact.

4. Check the calendar

Open Calendar: the letter deadline, the retirement tasks and the derived dates (insurance notice, renewals, planned replacements) are all there. Export to calendar (.ics) puts them into your calendar app with reminders.

Next: Reports, snapshots and automation.
